There are things I can't change And things I never would, Things from the past, the present And what is yet to unfold. There are things I can't change. Like the weather or time, The changing of seasons The rhythm and rhyme of A sunrise and sunset, Star bright and moon light. There are things I can't change, Like the spin of the earth As it travels its path In this great Universe. A tiny blue sphere locked Within her ellipse, The Earths' barycenter Holds her orbit on track. There are things I can't change, And things that I shouldn't Like mistakes and regrets Missteps of years past, The trials and sacrifices that Shape and inform, help create The person I have become. Then, there are the things I can change. I can change my mind to re-access, I can change direction for a better tack, I can change the way I react when challenged with disdain, I can change the way I listen, when it's another's turn to explain. I can choose to respond with grace, in both action and thought, I can choose humility over hubris, and put away judging lest I be judged. Of all the things I cannot change I must be accepting and at peace, But all the things I'm able to change, The changes that are within my grasp, Are the changes I make at soul-depth inside Are changes that allow me to see with kinder eyes. 2023
